THE FORGOTTEN FILMS OF ROSCOE “FATTY” ARBUCKLE
Popular rival of friend Charlie Chaplin mentor of sidekick Buster Keaton, Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle (1887-1933) dominated silent film comedy from the days of Keystone until tragic events in 1921 shattered his career, throwing his film triumphs into obscurity. Fans of silent slapstick regard Fatty Arbuckle as a genius, but his film shorts are rarely screened or seen. He was involved in the making of some 200 films in all. This four-disc set contains 32 silent and sound comedies directed by and starring Arbuckle. Among these shorts you’ll see Chaplin, Jackie Coogan, Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Ford Sterling, Harold Lloyd, Mabel Normand, At. St. John, Mack Swain, Edgar Kennedy, Charley Chase, Monty banks, Lupino Lane and Lloyd Hamilton. Restored and digitally remastered from original archival materials, or the only known surviving prints, each film is a craft in itself. And you’ll be certain to laugh. Also includes alternate commentary tracks from historians, original Arbuckle artwork, newly created music scores and a 36-page full-color booklet with rare photographs, restoration notes and essays from authors and historians including Steve Massa, David B. Pearson, Patricia Eliot Tobias, Brent Walker and Robert Young, Jr.

THE BEST OF HOWDY DOODY
The Howdy Doody Show remains known by a generation of (now grown) kids who remember Buffalo Bob’s greeting, “Say, kids! What time is it?” And the answer was always the same. “It’s Howdy Doody Time!” Approximately 40 kids squeezed each day into the studio’s “peanut gallery.” The Howdy Doody Show set numerous benchmarks for television. It was the first network kids show to air five days a week, the first show on the air every day (it was preceded by the network’s color pattern), the first show ever broadcast in color, and the first show ever to air more than 1,000 continuous episodes. While Howdy Doody, Princess WinterFallSummerSpring, Buffalo Bob and Clarabelle the Clown entertained American children, they also sold television sets to American parents and demonstrated the potential of the new medium to advertisers. With the assistance of NBC Universal Television executives, this two-disc set contains 20 of the earliest surviving episodes (including when the show was first called “The Puppet Playhouse” before changing to the familiar title). You’ll see the Fourth of July episode, the April Fool’s Day episode, learn the mystery of the 5 L’s, meet Chief Chickapaw and meet a magician! Twenty classic episodes from February 1, 1949 to April 1, 1952!
